The Cop Shop was established in 1984 by Sam Walters. At that time he was a Baltimore Police Officer assigned to uniform patrol. In 1990 he retired with 21 years of service and began to run The Cop Shop full time. His wife, Dawn, also retired from the Baltimore Police Department, where she was a secretary for 26 years, also works there. She owns Dawns Embroidery, a clothing store that specializes in Police clothing both embroidered and silk screened.
